Mary “Millie” Lawrence, 89, a native of Lincolnton, North Carolina, passed away in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on March 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of quiet faith, resilience, and a deep love for her family and church community. She was born on January 28, 1937.

Millie was adopted by Bob and Sydney Mullen, and carried her life forward shaped by both her beginnings and the many relationships that became her extended family over the years. She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Bob Mullen and Sydney Mullen, who were among the original founders of Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to her adoptive parents, she was preceded in death by relatives Joe and Fanny Littman, Lizzie Waller Williams, Tommie Waller, Hannah Clark, Alice Hampton, Mae Russell, Rust Waller, and Joe Nathaniel Waller. She leaves behind a large circle of relatives, family members, and loved ones who will continue to cherish her memory and the place she held in their lives.

In her later years, while residing at Willow Valley Nursing Home, Millie was faithfully visited by members of her church family from Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church. These visits brought her comfort, prayer, and companionship, ensuring she remained connected and surrounded by care.

Among those who visited her faithfully was Deacon Odis Maddox, who made monthly visits to Millie, offering encouragement, fellowship, and prayer until his passing. His devotion reflected the enduring bonds within her church family.

Millie also specifically requested visits from her relative, Deacon Jeff T. Williams, along with other family members and loved ones she longed to see during her time at Willow Valley Nursing Home.

In her final months, Millie often expressed a heartfelt wish—that her family would come and be with her. Month after month, she held onto that hope with love and longing. Now, in her passing, that wish has been fulfilled, and we are all here together to honor her life, her faith, and her memory.

She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, steadfast faith, and the way she remained connected to those she loved throughout her life. Mary “Millie” Lawrence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Lincolnton, NC at 12:30 p.m. Visitation of family and friends will be held from 12 noon until 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
