James Brown affectionately known as “Pee Wee” by his family and friends graduated from the Louisville High School in 1974, where he was proud member of the high school band, as a drummer. Upon graduating from Louisville High School, James moved to Passaic, NJ. There in Passaic he became a member of the Silver Star Lodge #45 in Passaic, NJ where he held the position of Master Mason, a title he thoroughly enjoyed. He loved teaching those who came behind him. He was truly “A man amongst men.”
James was very skillful and had various jobs. But upon retiring he was a driver for the TMB Production Company in Carlstadt, NJ. In 2009, James met the love of his life Annie Bostic and after retiring they relocated to Jacksonville, FL in 2019. They enjoyed traveling to attend family functions together. He found great joy in life’s simple moments, especially the time spent with his family. He loved driving to family gatherings, where the conversations, laughter, and time together was just as meaningful as the destination. He also enjoyed being Annie’s taste tester, always eager to sample a new recipe and offer his approval with a simple smile. These everyday moments reflected his love for his family and the happiness he found in being together.
At an early age, James joined The Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville, GA. No matter what state he resided in he attended church. James loved the Lord and he celebrated life because of his love for God.
His favorite scripture was John 14: "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave Brown Sr. and Lucile Gibbons Brown. Brothers, Jesse Brown, George Brown, David Brown, and sister Gertie Brown Walker.
He leaves behind his love Annie Bostic of Jacksonville, FL, three sisters, Lenora Brown of Clifton, NJ, Evelyn Brown Howard and Essie Gordon of Louisville, GA. Two brothers John Henry Brown of Charlottesville, VA and Eddie Lewis of Philadelphia, PA, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-laws, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who love him dearly.
