Martharine Lester, of Greenville, South Carolina, was born on December 18, 1958, in Blytheville, Arkansas, to Walter Tate and Geneva Lester Cammon. She gave more than 20 years of dedicated service to her country as a United States Marine and was deeply loved as a daughter, sister, mother, aunt, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Tate and Geneva Cammon, two sisters, Edith Sellers and Jeanette Chapman. On Saturday, July 11, 2026, Martharine departed this earthly life at the Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina at the age of 67.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Lester of England; her daughter, Porsha Lester of Blytheville, Arkansas; her brother, Mike Lester of Blytheville, Arkansas; her sisters, Jerlean Mixon of Pittsburg, California; Kathy (Sammie) Dodd of Blytheville, Arkansas; Peggy Smith also of Blytheville, Arkansas and Debra Lester of Clarksville, Tennessee; a beloved granddaughter, De’Asja Daniels, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 17, 2026, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 in the chapel of McDonald – Horne Funeral Home, 1207 South Division Street, Blytheville.
Celebration of Life Services are scheduled on Saturday, July 18, 2026, 12:00 noon at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, 809 East Main Street, Blytheville, Arkansas where Rickey Everett is the pastor.
Interment will follow in Dogwood Cemetery.
