A Memorial Service for Mattie M. Smith will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at St. John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, 2504 Chipco Street, Tampa with Reverend Dr. Barthomew Banks, Sr., Pastor, officiating.

“To every thing there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the heaven; a time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted...” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2)

Mattie M. Smith was born on September 28, 1981 in Alabama to the late Mitchell and Barbara Ann Smith. The family relocated to Tampa, Florida after her father’s discharge from the military.

She graduated from Thomas Richard Robinson High School – Tampa, FL in 1999.

At an early age, she joined St. John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Flager G. Hilton. She served in several ministries at St. John: Angelic Choir,

Youth Choir, Hour of Power, Girl Scouts. She was also a church representative (delegate) at Youth Congress and State and National Conventions.

She leaves behind to cherish her precious memories Stepmother, Bridget Wilbon; Brothers: Dion Smith (Kristen) and Mitchell Smith; Sisters: Briara Wilbon, Maya Wilbon, Maria Wilbon, Mariah Wilbon; Grandparents: Hubert and Marian Smith; Aunts: Sezilee Reid, Blanche Smith, Germaine Baugh (Paul), Beatrice Overton, Marilyn Sullivan (Walter); Uncle, Arnold K. Smith (Amanda); Nephews: Lorenzo Smith (Melissa), Jarren Smith, Kaleb Smith-Guerrise; Niece, Anna Smith; Special God-Children: Laraina Lerma, Nehemiah Ceasar, Amariah Tucker, Makayla Lang and Logan Lang, and a host of cousins, family members and friends.
