Obituary For Willie Hay Jr

Funeral services for Mr. Willie Hay Jr., of Queens, New York, will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Beulah Baptist Church Allendale, SC with Reverend Jimmy Smart officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Willie Hay, Jr., was born on August 18, 1945, son of the late Willie Hay, Sr. and Wilhmenar (Goodwine) Hay in Allendale, South Carolina. At age 73, he died Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Beach Terrace Nursing Home in Long Beach, New York. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He migrated to New York in 1964. Willie married Constancia L. White on November 6, 1965. During this time he worked as a cook, a clerk in a musical store, the Navy Yard and Long Island College Hospital. He continued his education in New York while working at Long Island College Hospital. He then obtained a new position at Gracie Square Hospital as an Orderly and Certified Nursing Assistant, where he retired from.

Willie was very ambitious. He did anything he could to provide for his family. Willie had a passion for helping those in need. This included family, friends, and strangers. He hated knowing that someone needed help and not try to help. What needs to be learned from Willie is that life is too short and often brutal. The best way to combat all of that is with a good laugh and the ability to appreciate the small moments of joy, despite the circumstances.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Wilhmenar (Goodwine) Hay; his father, Willie Hay, Sr.; his sisters: Williemae (Hay) Caldwell and Carrie Lee (Hay) Berry; and stepson, Raymond Sharpe.

Willie leaves behind his wife of 53 1/2 years, Constancia (White) Hay; their daughters: Victorine Hay Beckford and Julie Hay Rose; his daughter, Monica Hay; his two stepdaughters: Inescita Townsend and Sandra Sharpe; five grandchildren: Monique, Meghan, Tennille, Tori and Ephraim Jr.; a step grandchild, Maria; a sister, Eliza Hay; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be on the day of the service Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Beulah Baptist Church from 9-11 a.m. There will be no visitation at the funeral home on Friday.

Friends may call at the residence of his cousin, Cathy Platts at 339 Meyers Street Allendale, SC or at the funeral home.
