Obituary For Mr. Johnny Lewis Hamer

Johnny Lewis Hamer (The Fox) son of the late George and Luberta Hamer was born on September 17, 1944 in Dillon County, South Carolina. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, South Carolina.

He was educated in Dillon County Public Schools and graduated from Gordon High School in the class of 1964, living up to his class motto: “What we are to be, we are now becoming.” He was a legend to his class in all three sports. Johnny was a construction worker for many years. He also umpired for many years in the county league and for the Kiwanis Club at every age level. He also played as a semi-pro travel player in the segregated baseball league. He was also a fan of the Washington Redskins.

Johnny was preceded in death by two brothers: Howard E. Hamer and George Hamer Jr.; three children: Sharon Hamer, Jennifer Edwards and Robin Edwards.

Johnny leaves to cherish his loving memories ~ a loving wife: Catherine Hamer; eleven children: Phillip Williams, Marcus Williams, John (Keywanya) Williams, Sierra Williams, Jallian and Jallah Williams all of Dillon, SC, Luetisha Williams of Charlotte, NC, Johnny (Janet) Hamer Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Rodney Jennings of Killeen, TX, Cindy Edwards and Styrane Edwards of Roosevelt, NY; one sister: Alice Hamer Wright; one step-sister: Lois Campbell of Dillon, SC; one brother: Theallean-Von Hamer of Winston Salem, NC; three sisters-n-law: Pamela Williams of Dillon, SC, Johnnie Mae Bethea of Columbia, SC and Mary Marshall Hamer of GA; two brothers-n-law: Ray Charles (Barbara) Williams of Dillon, SC and Timothy Williams of Massachusetts; thirty-four grandchildren (one special grandchild that patiently fed and watched her “papa” daily of the home): Kailey Williams; twelve great grands; four special friends: James Washington, Lee Connie Bethea, Fella McEachern and Joe Milton Bethea and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
