Mother Jones attended school in Pittslyvania County, Virginia where she met the love of her life,Thomas Jones and married at the young age of 15. To this union, 5 children were born. Mother Jones was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and faithful friend to so many. Her beautiful smile, warm heart, compassionate and humble spirit embraced everyone who came in contact with her.
Mother Jones accepted Christ at an early age. She joined White Oak Missionary Baptist Church in Dry Fork, VA under the leadership of Pastor Edward Pope. She was a faithful and serving member before moving to Matthews, NC 15 years ago to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Mother Jones served faithfully as a Deaconess, Pastor’s Aide, as well as the Usher Board, Missionary and Nurses Ministeries at White Oak Missionary Baptist Church. She joined Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, Matthews, NC in 2005. She served as a faithful deaconess until her death. Mother Jones loved her church and she loved Pastor and his family.
Mother Jones loved her family, reading her bible, praying, watching her soap operas and Steve Harvey but most of all her love for God was abundant.
She was preceded in death by her father, Phillip Carter; her mother, Nellie Mahan Carter; husband, Thomas L. Jones and four children, Joe. L. Jones, William L. Jones, Cecile Y. Roberts and Dinah A. Woods and one sister,Virginia Carter.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Nellie J. Baylor; one son-in-law, Fred W. Baylor; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Jones of Danville, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Katie Jones of Dry Fork, Virginia; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 12:00 Noon at Mount Moriah Baptist Church Matthews NC. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon on Friday at the church and at other times at the home.
