Obituary For Major James Morgan

Answering God's call home, Retired Major James Morgan, Jr. transitioned on Monday, May 6, 2019, surrounded by his loving wife and family. Major Morgan was a trailblazer and a titan in the field of Law Enforcement, and a role model to many in the community. He was the third African-American hired as a deputy with the Leon County Sheriff's Office and was the first African-American promoted to the rank of Major within LCSO. Subsequent to his retirement from the LCSO, Morgan served with the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office for more than 13 years. Major Morgan's combined service in law enforcement was extraordinary and totaled almost 50 years. James leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Joann Morgan; four children, James Morgan III, Keith Morgan, Brenda Morgan Mills and Altamead Morgan, all of Tallahassee; brother, Albert Bouie of Deland, FL; sister, Shirley Bouie of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Rekeysha Johnson, Ashley Mills, James Morgan IV, Reshard Mills, Sakeitra Morgan, Markeisha Morgan and Shaclara Morgan; 12 great grandchildren and a host of other family of friends that loved him dearly. James was preceded in death by his parents, Alberta Bouie and James Morgan, Sr. and his sister, Dorothy Thomas. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 18, 2019, 11:00 A.M. at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 501 W. Orange Avenue Tallahassee, FL with burial at Southside Cemetery.

To The Morgan Family, It is sad to lose Major James to death. There is no comfort in death ,only grief. Almighty God understands that and he is going to eliminate it forever( Revelations 21:4).
