When the CLAY family moved to North Memphis, my sister Carleen was 12. It was then that we met the Diss family. Little did we know that MILDRED, then 11, and Carleen would become inseparable friends for life! While Carleen is now 85, she is unable to remember and do many of the things that she once did so well and always involved MILDRED. Carleen and Paul went on one or two dates when they were quite young. I will always remember MILDRED's comment when shortly after she married Paul "Carleen, had I known that you went out even one time with Paul, I would never have married him"! Of course this was all a joke, as both Paul and James were the best husband's they could have found anywhere on God's green earth! I have played the piano since I was 7 and can remember how excited I would get when MILDRED's uncle at the time, Bro. Joe Mays, drove his limo down and visited. I just knew I would be just as famous and have a limo one day! IT TAKES A VILLAGE and what a village we had at Manassas and Gospel Temple. Bernard

When our family moved to North Memphis, I was still 7, MILDRED was 11, my sister was 12. Mildred and Carleen have been like sisters ever since. There has never been anything they would not do for each other! Manassas the school and Gospel Temple the church gave us the foundation for the journey.

I am sorry to hear of Mildred’s passing and would like to extend my condolences to the family during their time of grief. A wonderful promise is recorded in the Bible at Revelation 21:4, “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes,+ and death will be no more,+ neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.+ The former things have passed away.”
