Obituary For Ms.Cora A. Garlington

Memorial service honoring the life and legacy of Ms. Cora A. Garlington, age 56, of Attalla, Al. will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the courtyard of Prestige Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, June 13, 2019. Rev. Dr. Mario McDaniel, Officiating. A private interment will be held at Rainbow Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Cora Ann Garlington was born April 19, 1963 to Eddie and Ogeeta Garlington in Attalla, AL being the sixth of seven children. Cora departed this life for her eternal home on June 4, 2019 at Riverview Regional Medical Center. She was proceeded in death by her father in 2017 and her mother in 2016.

Cora graduated from Etowah High School and attended Cosmetology School at Gadsden State Community College. She was employed at Stamped Products for many years and later at Anniston Army Depot.

Cora united at an early age with Antioch Methodist Church and later attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church. No matter what obstacles she faced, she remained strong in her faith and never stopped trusting in the Lord to see her thru.

Cora was a kind and loving person. She was well known for her ability to braid hair in unique styles. She was witty and always had a smile. She will be well remembered by the many friends who loved her dearly. Lovingly known as “Nanny”, she will always remain in our hearts. Our memories of her and our love for Nanny will sustain us as we struggle to go forward without her in our presence. She was truly someone to know.

Cora leaves to cherish her memories, three children; Shaquilla Garlington, Billy J. Brooks and Candi Brooks; eight grandchildren; Kyana, Shae, Faith, Kyontae, Shayla, Brooklyn, Billy Jr. and Malaysia. Four brothers; Eddie Jr., Larry, Allen, and Danny; two sisters; Edna and Julia. Three aunts; Lucille Marbury, Frankie Rogers and Stella Roger; one uncle, Clemon Rogers; great-uncle, James Davis and great-aunt, Leutisha Thomas, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

There are so many things I could say about Cora Garlington she came into my family life before I was even born her parents was like my parents 2nd parents and Cora was like a daughter to my momma when ever momma needed help Cora was right there I was raise up on Shorter Ave the people on Shorter Ave had a bond with one another even if they disagree about something they was mature enough not to fall out with one another and if you lived on Shorter Ave you didn't just have your biological parents you had a lot of parents The Garlington's /The Peterson's/The Hardwick's/The Underwood's/The Green's and many many more cause back then the whole neighborhood raise the children and Cora just happen to be one of those parents just like her parents babysitting the neighborhood children and watching out for the neighborhood children and chastising us if she had to because she care and love us having some of the same traits that her parents had if you ever met Cora Garlington she was going to touch your heart some kind of way I thank God that she was a part of our family she will be miss but not forgotten her parents and her will always be close in our hearts my only regret is not telling them I love them more then what I did and I just want to tell the Garlington Family God Bless y'all with some wonderful parents and a beautiful sister and we thank God for Blessing us to know such kind and caring people y'all have always treated us like family and we are so thankful and grateful that God allowed us to have y'all in our life With love from the Williams Family Eloise/Martha/Sandy/kenny/kenny JR/Kenzal
