Val was a great friend whom I had the pleasure of working closely with for more than 10 years. She was easy to talk to and provided great advice. I relied on those talks to help me work through different challenges. I know she was open to helping anyone who just needed to talk about anything. She always had a big heart. She was a great caring person, friend, and colleague that I will miss very much. Doug Curell

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:…a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. Ecclesiastes 3:1,4 Val was such a good friend and mentor to me. It breaks my heart she is suddenly gone, but I hear her voice clearly say, “It’s all good”. And so it is. She is at peace in the arms of our heavenly Father. My heart goes out to Candace, Beverly, Patricia, and the whole family. May you find the strength to grieve and, in time, to dance again. May you never allow sadness to breed doubt when it is meant to breed hope for tomorrow. Praise the Lord for His grace and mercy. Rest in peace, my dear friend.{{hugs}} Janet West

Valerie has been a friend and colleague for years! She and I shared several talks through the years and i truly consider her a friend. Many of those talk included her family where as I feel as i already know her sisters and her daughter Candace. May God give give you all the strength and peace of Val’s unwaveringly relationship with God. I lift you all up in prayer during this most difficult time.

To the family my condolences, during time of grief we all need comfort, and who better than GOD can do so (2 Cor.1:3,4) He assures us that death is not end John 5:28,29. Acts 24:15) His promise of a resurrection is trustworthy, one we can count on.

I worked with Valerie at NGB for several decades and considered her to be a good friend, always ready to help and to talk if someone needed her advice. I remember that she had recently moved back to LA shortly before Katrina, but then returned to the NGB to become the number one civilian in the Comptroller arena. Valerie had a beautiful soul and will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with her family as they go through this sad part of their lives. Myra Miller (NGB Co-worker)

Val was one of my favorite people in the ARNG Comptroller shop. From the first day I met her I liked her, I like her smile and I liked her "get it done" attitude. She was smart and always good for her word. I am so sad that she has passed, but I know her life has much to celebrate. - Larry Van Horn
