Obituary For Milton Thomas Thigpen

Milton Thomas Thigpen, 76, departed this life on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at his home in Creedmoor, North Carolina. He was born May 1, 1943 to the late Mamie Elizabeth Thigpen in Edgecombe County, North Carolina.

Upon graduation from Pattillo High School, Milton moved to New York, where he met and married Glidria Phyllis Richmond. After several years in the employ of the Capuano Trucking Company, the Thigpen family relocated to North Carolina. Subsequently, he was hired by John Umstead Hospital; in 2009, after twenty-three years, he retired from his position in the hospital’s warehouse.

Post-retirement, Milton enjoyed fishing, landscaping, and pitching horseshoes with friends. He was a strong, hard-working, and generous individual who was whole-heartedly devoted to his loved ones. Even throughout his illness, his faith in God was unwavering.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis Thigpen; his sons, David and Nathan Thigpen; his daughter, Raven Thigpen; his brother, James Thigpen; his granddaughters, Davielle Thigpen and Shadelle Lynch; four great-granddaughters; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Flora Thigpen Shaw.

Funeral service will be at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home, 2502 NC Hwy 55, Durham, NC., on Monday, June 24, 2019 at 11:00 am, visitation at 10:00 am.

Dear Thigpen Family: Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. I know that this is a difficult time for your family. There are two scriptures that help me whenever I am in a difficult situation like this. Philippians 4:6,7 and Romans 8:38,39 bring me great comfort. I hope they do the same for you. Again, I'm sorry for your loss.

Sending our condolences to the Thigpen family. I had the privilege of meeting and working with him when he was employed at John Umstead Hospital. We later moved to the sub-division where he lived. I saw him out working in his yard often. You could tell he enjoyed landscaping, and he would always wave when he would see us when he was out on his mower. He was a very kind man and will surely be missed by all who knew him.
