Upon graduation from Pattillo High School, Milton moved to New York, where he met and married Glidria Phyllis Richmond. After several years in the employ of the Capuano Trucking Company, the Thigpen family relocated to North Carolina. Subsequently, he was hired by John Umstead Hospital; in 2009, after twenty-three years, he retired from his position in the hospital’s warehouse.
Post-retirement, Milton enjoyed fishing, landscaping, and pitching horseshoes with friends. He was a strong, hard-working, and generous individual who was whole-heartedly devoted to his loved ones. Even throughout his illness, his faith in God was unwavering.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis Thigpen; his sons, David and Nathan Thigpen; his daughter, Raven Thigpen; his brother, James Thigpen; his granddaughters, Davielle Thigpen and Shadelle Lynch; four great-granddaughters; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Flora Thigpen Shaw.
Funeral service will be at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home, 2502 NC Hwy 55, Durham, NC., on Monday, June 24, 2019 at 11:00 am, visitation at 10:00 am.
