He was also affectionately called “Kory” by his family, “Triumph” by his fraternity brothers and “Jack” by his military buddies.
At an early age he attended Soul Chapel AME Church with his grandmother. He knew the Word of God and always kept his Bible close by; so that, he could continuously read the Scriptures. He had his own personal relationship with the Lord.
Kory was a 2002 graduate from Britton’s Neck High School, where he was a varsity basketball player. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil Engineering Technology in 2007 and his Masters of Science Degree in Transportation in 2010, both from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. While attending college, he pledged Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. In 2011, he joined the United States Army as a Specialist and did a tour in Afghanistan during his five years of faithful service.
Kory always expressed himself with wit and wisdom. His favorite sayings were, “Life is chess not checkers,” and “Pain is temporary; pride is forever.” If anyone asked him how he was doing, his answer was always, “I’m good.” He was a member of Dream Team SC of Brittons Neck, South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; his maternal grandparents and his paternal grandfather, Mr. Joseph Vereen.
Kory leaves to cherish fond and loving memories ~ his wife: Mrs. Karimah Jackson of New Jersey; his loving mother: Mrs. Pamela Jackson Davis and her husband: Mr. Terry Davis, who was a devoted dad to him, both of Marion, SC; his father: Mr. Jonathon Vereen of Savannah, GA; siblings: Mrs. Terrianda (Lamont) Legette, Mr. Terry Davis Jr., Mrs. Shelang (Antowaine) Brown, Mrs. Chasity (Kevin) Phillips, Mr. Joshua (Aliesha) Vereen, Mrs. Kenyatta (Ernest) Powell and Mr. Jovares Vereen; his grandmothers: Dr. Flossie B. Jackson and Mrs. Virginia Vereen; his mother-in-law: Ms. Elizabeth Newton; aunts: Rev. Gypsie (Winfred) Murdaugh, Ms. Melissa Capers, Dr. Christi Bartell and Ms. Josephine Vereen; uncles: Mr. Johnny (Arnetha) Davis and Mr. Anthony Moore; sisters-in-law: Miss Sophia Newton and Miss Skylar Newton; a brother-in-law: Mr. Zeke (Lydia) Newton; a special “brother/best friend”: Mr. Rolando “Rolly” Willis; a “special cousin”: Mr. Teon Teshima and two special friends: Mr. DeEric Richardson and Mr. Darius Anderson and a host of great aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
