Funeral services for Mrs. Sadie Sumpter, 77, of 1423 Hillsboro Road, Orangeburg will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at St. Paul Baptist Church, 2259 Rowesville Road, Orangeburg, with interment to follow in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. Reverend Charcey N. Priester is officiating. Mrs. Sumpter will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Ms. Sadie Mae Sumpter, the daughter of the late "Jim" Gilmore and Rena Morton Gilmore was born March 30, 1942 in Orangeburg, SC. Ms. Sumpter passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2019 at the Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg.

She attended the public schools of Orangeburg County. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church. Sadie was well known throughout her community. She always encouraged family members to go to church. And without a doubt, she loved her Chinese Food.

Sadie was a dedicated employee of the New York City Law Department for over 25 years as a claims examiner. In 1997, she retired at the age of 55 years old.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband, Earnest Sumpter of 45 years of marriage; and two sisters, Patricia Cheeseboro and Frances Sumpter.

Sadie leaves to cherish fond and loving memories, her daughters, Karen Denise Sumpter of Queens, NY and Vanessa Sumpter-Springle of Honolulu, HI; three siblings, Margaret Williams-Spruill of Bronx, NY, Bessie Wright of Brooklyn, NY and James Gilmore, Jr. of Manhattan, NY; six grandchildren, Shanice Bailey, Sade Bailey, Keiona Neasha Ama Serwa Owusu, Keante Springle, Kiara Springle and Keyon Springle; a host of nieces, nephews; other loving family members and friends.
