Mr. Walter T. Wadsworth a resident of Montgomery, AL expired July 7, 2019.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from Hutchinson Missionary Baptist Church.

Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Sylacauga, AL on Sunday, July 21, 2019.

Family hour will be held Friday, July 19, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m

Celebration of Life

Walter T. Wadsworth was born August 30, 1947 in Talladega County, Alabama to Joseph and Jessie Nix Wadsworth. It was while living in Sylacauga, Alabama that he accepted Christ at an early age at Harper Springs Baptist Church. He continued to be a faithful member until relocating to Montgomery, Alabama where he would continue his education.

While living in Talladega County, Walter graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1966. After graduation it was time for Walter to move on to the next phase of his life where he would enroll in Alabama State University. He was a proud graduate of Alabama State University Class of 1971. During his college years he worked at Bonnie Crest Country Club, Sheraton Hotel and part-time at United Parcel Service. He proved early in life that he had a strong work ethic by working two jobs and pursuing his college degree. After his college completion he was hired full-time with United Parcel Service where he would remain a faithful employee for 34 years. He retired October 31, 2002 . Before retiring, he was blessed with two grandchildren that would remind him so much of his own children. He now had been blessed with another boy (Alex) and a girl (Kadijah) to love, teach, nurture and spend quality time with. Summers were the highlight of the year for him as he looked forward to his grandchildren coming to visit. His outpour of fatherly love and support didn't just stop at his own children and grandchildren but it expanded to those in the neighborhood, his children's friends, nieces, nephews and all that he came in contact with. He was dedicated to the end in being a positive role model for others. He often said with great humor in rearing his children that "if you don't work.. you don't eat". Walter was always a hardworking father that provided for his family. While enjoying his retirement years, Walter loved to garden and took great pride in showing off all the tasty vegetables he would grow. Not only did he enjoy gardening but he loved watching western movies and sports of all kinds especially when his Alabama State University Hornets football team was playing. He traveled near and far with his family over the years to watch the Hornets play.

During the months of his illness he was blessed to receive what he had given others for so many years; love, compassion, support and encouragement. He was always so thankful for the acts of kindness that he received during this time.

On July 7, 2019, Walter was called to his eternal resting place. He was preceded in death by his parents; Joseph and Jessie Wadsworth; his sister, Christine Echols; and two brothers John Oscar Nix and Joe Louis Wadsworth. He leaves behind to cherish: a loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Zella Wadsworth; a devoted son ,Nicklaus (Vickie) Wadsworth; a loving and devoted daughter, Qwanza (Steven) Sanders; a loving sister, Callie Wadsworth Morant; two devoted grandchildren Samuel A. White II and Kadijah A. White, and extended grandchildren, Shadae (Lawrence) Harley, Sondrina and Steven Sanders Jr. Lawrence Harley Jr., and Terrence Harley ,four sisters-in-laws, Mable Winston, Camilla Leggs, Irene Mitchell, and Virginia (Joe) Jackson, four brothers-in-laws, Joseph Jones, Willie Jones, Williams (Linda) Jones, and Ronnie (Pat) Jones and a host of nephews, nieces, loving family and special friends.
