Obituary For John Thomas

Funeral service for Deacon John Henry "Buck" Thomas will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday, July 20, 2019 at Round O Missionary Baptist Church, 1900 Society Hill Rd., Darlington. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Deacon Thomas was born on October 25, 1937. He was the son of the late James McNeil and Marie Thomas Lowery. He died on Sunday, July 14, 2019.

John, who was affectionately called "Buck" was born and raised in Darlington, SC. He attended Darlington County Schools and was employed with La-Z-Boy East, where he worked for 30 years, until he retired.

John was married for fifty-three years to Ellen Pogue Thomas.

John was a member of Round O Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, until his health declined.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen of the home; two daughters, Jacquelyn (Johnathan) Parnell and Lisa Thomas; three grandchildren, Johnathan Derrick Parnell, II, Jalynn Denise Parnell, and Tatum Colin Johnson; three brothers, George (Linda) Lowery, Cary Lowery, and Steven (Twala) Lowery; five sisters, Mary Blanchett, Reverend Eula Pack, Lizzie (Walter) Williamson, Eva Lowery and Annette (Dwight) Nettles; one uncle, Jack Thomas; two brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a host of nephews; nieces; cousins; other relatives; church family; and friends.

The family will receive friends at 1421 Society Hill Rd., Darlington
