She was born in Harrisburg, daughter of the late James and Creola (Johnson) Adams, retired from the former Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot, a member of the Beulah Baptist Church of Steelton and Cyrene Temple #75 IBPOE of W.
In her leisure, she enjoyed shopping & traveling and loved to dress. Joan was the widow of Richard Shye, Jr. and in addition to him & her parents was preceded in death by her daughter, Vicky Shye-Thomas and leaves to celebrate her life, her grandson, Hiram L. Birdsong; her granddaughter, Unika L. Shye; her great-grandchild who was always with her, ILLayah M. Rivera; her 10 additional great-grands and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Her life will be celebrated on Saturday, July 20th at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of her Church at 100 Livingston St., Steelton, with viewing 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. and burial in William Howard Day Cemetery.
