Obituary For Rev. John Lee Sr.

John Lee Sr. was born in Fort Pierce, Florida on July 10, 1934, to parents John Lee and Leanna Stevenson. He attended the St. Lucie County public schools, including the evening night school program for adults. He tendered his personal quest to become a minister of the gospel by enrolling in the Logos Bible College and the Piedmont Interdenominational School of Religion. In addition, he was grandfathered in at the Morehouse School of Religion. Reverend Lee became an ordained minister at the age of 22. He delivered his first sermon at the Church of God in Christ (in Fort Pierce).

Reverend Lee was very active in many charities and service organizations, among which were Masud Temple #69, Masonic Lodge #155, and Sunrise Consistory #202 in which he enjoyed a 32nd Degree Mason status. He was a member of Elks Lodge #220 and the International Longshoreman’s Association/ILA#1359, American Legion Post 171. He was a member of the Citizens Observations Patrol (COP); a member of the Florida Treasure Coast Baptist Association; a representative for Congressman Alcee Hastings, District #; a member of the Afro-American Council of Ministers; a lifetime honorary member of the Florida Sheriffs Association; Ministers and Deacon Union Devotion Leader; annual Santa Clause for the Willie Gary Organization; and a member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee of St. Lucie County.

In addition, Rev. Lee had time to show his talent as a carpenter, builder, plumber, and mechanic when such services were needed.

Reverend Lee transitioned into the presence of the Lord on August 13, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Leanna Stevenson Lee; brothers, Walter Hodge, Vernon Lee, and Robert Stevenson; sisters, Ethel Davis, Lillie Mae Smith, Rosenza Golphin, Beatrice Roberts, Albertha Williams, and Evangeline Dickerson.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his beloved wife of 33 years, Jannette Lee; son, John Lee Jr. of Okeechobee, FL; Dwaymos Lee of Bowling Green, FL; Iisaman Flagg of Miami, FL, and Charles (Sandy) Flagg of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Isis Flag of Atlanta; grandchildren, Antwan (Nicole) Lee, Terrence Lee, Alia Jordan, Charles Flagg, Asia Flagg, Malachi Flagg, and India Flagg; great-grandchildren, Antaysia Lee, TaNayia Lee, Ma’Kayla Lee; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service for The Reverend John Lee Sr., will be held Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 1:00 p.m., at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. A Visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019 from 4-6, with a wake service beginning at 6p.m.
