Funeral services for Mrs. Thelma Oliver Goodley, 102, formerly of 1585 Johnson St., Orangeburg, will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 7134 North Road, North, SC, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Monroe Daniely is officiating.

The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Thelma Oliver Goodley was born on August 23, 1917 in Wolfton, SC to the late Della McMichael Oliver and Dennis “Bob” Oliver. Our Lord dispatched His angels to bring his beloved servant Thelma Oliver Goodley unto Him on August 28, 2019 at the age of 102. Thelma, affectionately known as “Dugg” and “Granny,” was educated in the public schools of Orangeburg County.

She was employed by the Orangeburg Pecan Company for many years, until retiring at the tender age of 80. She was a woman of substance and great faith. She enjoyed helping others and talking to her friends and family about the goodness of the Almighty God.

At an early age, Thelma joined Jerusalem Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Choir and enjoyed providing meals for the children each year on Children’s Day.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Goodley; and three children: Raymond Thomas Hook, Matthew Goodley and Alfred “Bozo” Goodley.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: one sister, Gwendolyn O. Inabinet of Columbia, SC; two daughters-in-law: Alma T. Hook of North Carolina and Lula Mae Goodley of North, SC; five grandchildren of the late Raymond Hook: Ronald (Mary) Brown of Orangeburg, SC, Gloria (Andrew) Watson of Sunrise, FL, Ramona Hook and Coralie Hook both of New York, and Raymond Malik Grant of Florida; one adopted grandson, Harold Franklin of Orangeburg, SC; 10 grandchildren of the late Alfred Goodley: Laverne, Mary, Margaret, Alfred Jr., Darlene, Nathaniel, Nelson, Janice, James, and Annie Ruth; three grandchildren of the late Matthew Goodley: Cynthia, Patricia and Michelle Goodley; special caregivers: Rosalyn Haigler, Tanya Bethea and Natasha Charles; 40 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, church members, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 from 12:00pm – 8:00pm.

Friends may call at the residence of her grandson, Mr. Ronald Brown, 1107 Lancaster St., Orangeburg or Simmons Funeral Home and Crematory of Orangeburg.
