Obituary For Charlie Calvin Strown

Funeral services for Mr. Charlie Calvin Strown, 76, will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Matthew Leonard will be the eulogist. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Strown will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Charlie Calvin Strown began life’s journey on Tuesday, July 6, 1943 to the union of Claude Strown, Sr. and Mary L. Collins Strown in Talladega, Alabama.

Mr. Strown accepted Christ as his Lord and personal Savior at an early age and united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. He received his education in the Talladega County School System. Charlie was a concrete finisher for a number of years. On July 27, 1965, Charlie married the former Lillie Ruth Caldwell and they remained in holy covenant until her passing on August 20, 2016.

On Saturday, September 7, 2019, Mr. Strown answered the Master’s call. He was preceded in passing by his wife of fifty-one years, Lillie Ruth Strown; his parents, Claude and Mary Strown; four sisters, Vera Alice Collins, Annie S. Nixon, Lillian Cross and Betty J. Swain; one brother, Bobby Strown; and one grandson, Deonte Strown.

Mr. Strown leaves to cherish his memories: five daughters, Jacqueline (Joe) Swain of Talladega, Alabama, Tracey Hendrix of Pell City, Alabama, Tammy (James) Groce of Talladega, Alabama, Carla (Jesse) Smith of Phenix City, Alabama and Mary (David) Lynch of Talladega, Alabama; three sons, Roosevelt (Francine) Strown and Charlie Strown of Talladega, Alabama and Felton (Dawn) Matthews of Huntsville, Alabama; twenty-three grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren; three brothers, Claude Strown, Jr. of Lincoln, Alabama, Lewis (Deborah) King of Cleveland, Ohio and Prezell (Cheryl) Lane of Childersburg, Alabama; three sisters, Linna Johnson of Talladega, Alabama, Channey Nobles of Pell City, Alabama and Dell Lane of Detroit, Michigan; five sisters-in-law, Betty Swain and Geraldine Dates of Talladega, Alabama, Bobbie (Billy) McAfee of Detroit, Michigan, Odessa Caldwell and Margaret Tuck of Talladega, Alabama; three brothers-in-law, Jerry Lewis Caldwell, Douglas Caldwell of Talladega, Alabama and A. C. Swain of Alpine, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
