Obituary For Lillian W. Meekins

On September 23, 2019, Lillian W. Meekins passed away peacefully after a long prosperous life to be with our Lord and Savior. Lillian W. Meekins was born April 26, 1926, to the late James Spencer Wallace and Eliza Wallace Davis. She was one of nine siblings born and educated in Henrico County’s Public School System. She accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church, and served dutifully on the Ladies Auxiliary Board and as the Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Lillian loved her church and supported many church endeavors and activities. Lillian was a dedicated and doting mother to Veda and Jasmine Meekins and a committed grandmother to Monique Flowers. She earned her GED and worked in Henrico County’s Public School System for many years as a Teaching Assistant. Lillian was also employed with the Federal Government as a Food Nutritionist with McGuire Hospital and retired from both professions at the age of sixty-five. Lillian was fondly known as “Mama,” “Grandma,” and “Lily.” She loved her family and friends, and she was known far and wide for her apple cobbler. She was a skilled, self-taught seamstress, an avid reader, an accomplished tutor, and a nurturing caregiver for many neighborhood children. She looked forward to holidays, family celebrations, and entertaining friends. Lillian leaves to cherish her beloved memory two loving and faithful daughters Veda and Jasmine Meekins; one devoted granddaughter Monique Flowers (Rev. Dr. Paul); three great grand-children Paul Jr., Andre and Erica; sisters Luvenia Goode, Irene Lester; brother-n-law Joseph Jones; one aunt Josephine Bigger; godchildren Karen Goode and Dr. Erika Chambliss Bryant (Dante’); numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; one enthusiastic Denby F. Crawley; one first cousin Margret Bigger and a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday, Sept. 27 at Antioch Baptist Church, 1384 New Market Road. Dr. James Sailes officiating. Rev. Dr. Paul Flowers eulogist. Interment Washington Memorial Park.
