Obituary For Douglas Sanders

OBITUARY

Douglas Lorenzo Sanders, Jr was born March 29, 1950 at St. Agnes Hospital in Raleigh, NC. He was the oldest of four born to the late Douglas Lorenzo Sanders, Sr and the late Marjorie Joyner Sanders. He departed this life on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Raleigh Rehabilitation Center.

Douglas was educated through the Wake Co public school system. He obtained his GED through Wake Technical Community College in May of 1989. During his younger years he played football, Number 63 an Offensive RightGuard for JW Ligon High School. Douglas attended Truck Driving School at Johnston Technical Community College. There he began his career of driving tractor trailer trucks. He worked for several companies including long distance and local haulers. Douglas also worked for The House of Lights and Tammy Lynn Center as well as several years as an entrepreneur cleaning businesses and moving people.

Douglas had several hobbies including softball, bowling and sometimes fishing. He loved music and fellowship. Doug, as he was affectionately called, just wanted everyone to eat well and have a good time. He was a faithful member of Rush Metropolitan AME Zion Church. He attended regularly until his health failed him.

He was proceded in death by his brother, Donald Sanders and his parents Lorenzo and Marjorie. Doug leaves to cherish his fond memories his daughter, Onnica Sanders (Carlton Stephen) from Raleigh, NC; a step-son Mikel Williams of Raleigh, NC; his sister, Marilyn Sanders of Raleigh, NC; a brother, Ronald Sanders (Janice) of Rocky Point, NC; three grandchildren, Onnesti Jones, Onniyah Sanders, and Jonathan Stephen, all of Raleigh, NC; two step grandchildren, Kaila and Zoe Williams both of Raleigh, NC; two nieces, Kamilla Dancy of Raleigh, NC and Kendra Polk (Chris) of Charlotte, NC; one nephew, Kareem Sanders (Devin) of Cincinnati, OH; four great nephews and one great niece; his former wife, Mildred Sanders of Raleigh, NC and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral Service: 1:00pm Saturday, 9/28/2019 at Rush Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, Raleigh, NC; viewing one hour prior to service. Arrangements by C.E. Willie Funeral & Cremation Services, 742-F East Chatham /s/t., Cary, NC 27511

I will always remember my riding buddy. We rides and talk about sports we likes the same basketball team UNC. Everyday I gets in my van n I be hoping to see u in the back listening to music n telling me to turn the AC off and I be like really it’s a1000 degrees out here lol. I miss u Mr Sanders

I will forever remember Doug,Johnny Moore, Otis Allen,my cousin Wanda Hunter and I riding all over Raleigh in Doug's old Black Ford. His was our ride and die. To my oldest brother. U will be missed. I enjoyed being around you sharing fond memories about trucking, football, and basketball. We debated alot about State and Carolina.
