Glenn grew up in Madison and attended the schools of Morgan County. He graduated in 1979 from Morgan County High. He joined Thankful Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. Franklin D. Clark. He was a valued team member at Godfrey’s Feed Warehouse for many years. He was also employed later in life by Wendy’s as a cook. Glenn loved the outdoors and enjoyed many recreational actives to include fishing. Glenn also appreciated being able to take care of his home and could be seen on any day, maintaining or cleaning his vehicles, cutting and beautifying his lawn or caring for his calves. Glenn loved his town and would enjoy just taking in the sites around town.
Glenn was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Mathis Jr and brother, Lee Rogers Mathis.
Glenn leaves to cherish his memories: his mother Bessie Lou Lowe-Mathis, his children, Sharon (Ulysses) Jones, Glenn (Melinda) Mathis Jr, Marvin (Jessica) Mathis, Shumia Mathis-Cost, and Edith (Ernest) Reid; Five brothers, Charlie (Dorothy) Mathis III, William Mathis, and Victor Mathis, Sammy Russell, and Robert (Joanne) Russell; seven sisters, Rosia Lee Mathis, Geraldine (Ronnie) Walker, Margaret (Donnie) Ward, Be y Mathis, Pamela (Anthony) Jacobs, Chanon (Forrest) Robinson, and Lisa (Ezell) Weaver; nine grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Springfield Baptist Church, Madison, Georgia, Rev. Jessie Roundtree, Officiating. Interment will follow in Madison Memorial Gardens.
