Obituary For Bishop Milton H. Hill

A celebration of life for Bishop Milton Hill, 98, will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Refuge Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Elder James E. Jackson is the pastor. Apostle Matthew Norwood will be the eulogist. Interment will be in Pine Grove Church Cemetery. Bishop Hill will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Bishop Milton Herman Hill was born on Saturday, May 7, 1921 to Bradley Hill and Elsie Paralee Wilson Hill in Lincoln, Alabama located Talladega County.

Milton was raised in the Lincoln community. He received his education in the Talladega County School System where he was a graduate of Talladega County Training School and continued his education at Talladega College. On October 16, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably until October 28, 1945 during this time earning the EAME Theatre Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. He retired with many years of service from Anniston Army Depot as a forklift operator. Civically, Bishop Hill helped to establish the Lincoln Chapter of the NAACP and assisted with the Lincoln Little League.

Bishop Hill was a longtime member of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. He served as pastor of Refuge Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ (COOLJC) for fifty-eight years. He also pastored at Refuge II COOLJC in Anniston, Miracle Hill COOLJC in Pell City and Truelight COOLJC in Childersburg. Bishop Hill served as vice chair of the Board of Bishops and State Bishop of the Alabama Diocese. Under his leadership, he helped to establish several churches. In 2019, Bishop Hill was honored with the Legends Award.

On May 22, 1943, Milton and the former Bonnie Ruth George were united in holy matrimony and remained in holy covenant until her passing on August 6, 2009. The Lord blessed this union with three children.

On the evening of Sunday, September 29, 2019, Bishop Hill answered the call of his Lord and Savior. He was preceded in passing by his wife of 66 years, Bonnie R. Hill; a son, Connally Hill; a daughter, Elsie Britt; a granddaughter, Felecia Britt; his parents, Bradley and Elsie Hill; four brothers, Jeremiah Jones, Elliott Hill, Alphonia Hill and Bennie Hill; and one Goddaughter, Betty Jennings.

He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Gwendolyn H. Johnson of Birmingham, Alabama and Daphne (Gilbert) Edwards of Montgomery, Alabama; a daughter-in-law, Veronica Hill of Oxford, Alabama; a special son, Carnel Davis of Houston, Texas; fourteen grandchildren, Connally Dion (Brenda) Hill, Kevin B. (Natasha) Johnson, Stephanie (Emege “Ike”) Nchege, Roderick D. (Patrice) Johnson; Gilbert Patrick Edwards, Brian (Shareeka) Johnson, Billy W. (Leola) Britt, Elsie L. Britt, Deborah Britt, Dannie Britt, Alisa Britt, Casey Weed, Shameca (Anthony) Jenkins and Latanya (Howard) Woods; twenty-two great grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren; two special nieces, Mary Ann Hill and Ms. Mary Truss of Lincoln, Alabama; two Goddaughters, Gloria (Minister Jack) Johnson of Eastaboga, Alabama and Bonnie Vincent of Southside, Alabama; one God granddaughter, Crystal Rivera of Huntsville, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
