Ruby Barther Osgood

Passed 10/04/2019

Ruby Barther Osgood, the youngest of eight children born to the late Willie and Lela McSane Barther, entered this world in May 8, 1921. At the young age of sixteen, she was united in holy matrimony with the late Robert Henry Osgood Sr. on December 25, 1935. From this union, fourteen children were born, two of whom died in infancy. As a young child, Ruby had a fervent love for Jesus. She loved reading Bible stories, and these stories greatly moved and inspired her. Therefore, it was not surprising that at the age of ten, she made a spiritual commitment and joined Robertson Grove Baptist Church. Shortly after marriage, she transferred her membership to her husband’s church, Straight Gate Church of God, where she remained. Ruby was active in church. She served in various capacities including Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, treasurer of the church, chairperson of the deacon and deaconess board, mother and spiritual leader of the church. She was also active in the statewide camp meeting in Wadley, Georgia. She chaired some of their missionary services and participated in their nursing home visitation outreach ministry. On her own, she often visited the sick and shut-in, and prayed with them. She visited the prisons and left tracts for the prisoners. On October 17, 1999, Ruby received the State Worker of the Year Award for her faithful and dedicated service from the Women of the Church of God Georgia General Assembly. In the early morning hours of October 4, 2019, Ruby exchanged mortality for immortality in the comfort of her own home. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Osgood, Sr. and 5 children, Martha, James Wesley, Christola, Ehab, and Ruby. She leaves to nurture her memory and hold dear her legacy 9 children—four daughters—Mary, Dorothy, Pearl, and Yolanda and 6 sons—Robert, Jr. John, Moses, Herman, Harold, and Christopher; five daughters-in-law, Juanita, Sabrina, Sharon, Angela, and Annie; 2 sons-in law: Ellie Williams and Mathis Abrams, 45 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 2:30 P.M. at Pineola Church of God, Wadley, GA. Interment will be held at Straight Gate Church of God, Midville, GA.
