Funeral services will be Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 1:00 p.m., Hope Spring M.B. Church, 5189 Livingston Road, Jackson, MS 39213 with burial in Hope Spring Church Cemetery, Forest Avenue Ext., Jackson, MS 39213.

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 A TIME TO BE BORN: Ruby Lee Austin’s time to be born came on April 12, 1943 in Barlow, Mississippi. She was born to the late Wyatt Mitchell and Carrie Bell Mitchell. A TIME TO EMBRACE: Ruby received her early education in the Jackson Public School District. She was employed with Mississippi Baptist Hospital for 26 years. Ruby was baptized at an early age at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Barlow, Mississippi. She later joined Greater Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend A. L. Barnes. She often visited Hope Spring M. B. Church with her daughters and was considered an honorary member by many until she became an official member 2 years ago under the leadership of Dr. Samuel L. Thompson. A TIME TO LOVE: Ruby epitomized God’s love…if you were hungry, she found you something to eat; if you needed shelter, her doors were opened to you; if you needed a shoulder to cry on, she graciously offered hers; and if you needed someone to talk to, she was always eager to lend you her ears; without a doubt she carried many secrets in her bosom. A TIME TO CELEBRATE: Like the Prodigal’s father our Heavenly Father welcomed his child home on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 in her home surrounded by some of her loved ones. Her untimely departure stunned her family, loved ones, and friends, but we find peace in knowing SHE is resting in her Father’s bosom. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, two brothers: William Clifton Washington and Warren Lee Washington; one sister Peggy Smith and the love of her life Edward Williams. We know God has taken a precious jewel from OUR lives. She will be missed and remembered by her four daughters: Shirley (Herman) Smith of Mesquite, TX; Willa Mena (Willie) Berry, Brenda Austin and Linda Caston of Jackson, MS. One God daughter Vivian Sims of Atlanta, GA. Three stepdaughters: Patricia (James) Hughes, Jackie and Teresa (Fred) Vance of Jackson, MS. Twenty-two grandchildren and a host of great grands. Three brothers: Robert (Georgia) of Hazlehurst, MS; Willie Charles (Shirley) of Spring Hill, TN. Four sisters: Mary Barnes, Leanner Mitchell Johnson, Alice (Cecil) of Hazlehurst, MS and Ola Mae Mitchell of Lansing, MI. She will also be missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. As she often said her grandkids were her heart and soul; no matter how bad we thought they were; you better not mess with any of them especially her three Amigos: Antonio (Toe-Toe), Victor (Fufu) and Vincent(Bun). We believe the other grands were a little jealous of those three but knew they were just as special: Patrice Craddock, Christy Wright; Chundra Austin, Valerie Washington, Tiffany Bell; Candis Austin, Taneial Lindsey, Jamecia Howard; LaTesha Wells, Shakira Caston, Jakira Caston, Korrion Washington; LaQuita Sims, Octavia Ringgold, Toni Sims; Jarvis Austin, Emanuel Austin, Kaila Vance, and Arie Austin. Her loving Great Grands who was there almost every day: Wunkie, Poo-Poo, CJ, Spoodie, Cameron, Quanda, King, Ayden, Tyler, Nadiya, Ju, Mariah, Jay Bug and Brody, who affectionately passed her, her house-shoes, her walker, a bottle of water…or just sat and talked with her, were loved deeply and no less appreciated.
