Mama Lois graduated from Attala County Training School. She worked as a nurse for 59 years at Monfort Jones Memorial Hospital.
She accepted Christ as a child and joined Mt. Lebanon Methodist Church. Later, she joined Traveler's Rest Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as treasurer of the Mother's board. She faithfully attended church until failing health prevented her from doing so.
She was united in holy matrimony to William P. Journey for 74 years until he preceded her in death in 2018. To this union five children were born.
Her parents, stepmother Minnie Weatherly, grandson Kelton Journey, sisters Edna Louise and Alice Thompson, Ethel Watkins, brothers: Warren and Aquilla Thompson and foster parents, Gene and Georgia Gaston all preceded her in death.
Her greatest joy in life was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her extended family. She departed this earthly life on October 16, 2019 in Gulfport, MS surround by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren
She leaves to cherish her memories, five children: William Earl (Georgia) Journey, Kosciusko, MS; Barbara (Larry) Hopson, Hattiesburg, MS; Bill Journey Huntsville, AL; Qwendolyn Journey, Gulfport, MS and James (Janice) Journey, Lynnville, TN; Grandchildren: Erica (Juan) Williams, Southhaven, MS; Terri Lois Journey, Tupelo, MS; Dafaney Journey, Lynnville, TN; Christy Journey-Knight, Columbia, TN; Kimberly Hopson, Berwyn, PA; Martin (Shameka) Journey, Kosciusko, MS; Great-grandchildren: Kayla Walker, Aria Kennedy Boyd, Treyson Journey, Laila Knight, Journey & Noah Williams, Addyn, Landen, and William Parker Journey. One sister: Lydia Thompson-Kimbrough, Milwaukee, WI. Sister-in-law: Slaughter, Jackson, MS; step-sisters: Jean Orme, Chicago, IL; Sherron Campbell, Kosciusko, MS; Sandra Cox, Markham, IL; step-brother Ralph Gaston, Chicago, IL and her loyal friends: Shirley (Candy) Johnson, Bobbie Dean Phillips, Shirley McNeal and Lula Thompson as well as a host of other friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Lois Journey a 97 year old native of Kosciusko, MS passed away Wednesday, 10/16/2019 in Gulfport, MS.
