At the age of 19, Mildred relocated to N.J. While residing there, she was employed with Prudential in Newark, NJ and Xerox in Roseland, NJ. She moved to Shelby, NC where she lived for the last eight years. Quiet by nature, she possessed a strong spirit that was prevalent throughout her illness. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing puzzles and playing all types of games which included trips to Atlantic City, NJ.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Karen Brunson of Shelby; her grandchildren, DeVante E. Dukes of VA and Kaliya Brunson Albany of Shelby; a brother, Larry Patterson of SC; cousins, Phillip Wright, Barbara Taylor, Kevin Brown, Terrence Brown, Shonda Brown and Krystle Brown; close friends, Theotis “Smokey” Moore and Jamilah Abdur-Rauf; “adopted daughters”, Jennifer Clark, Benita Jones, Karen Askew-Jones, Lisa Gamble, Traci Horton, Cynthia Smith, Doreen Green and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 12:00 Noon at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel.
