Sister Mattie “Rat” L. Peterson Mitchell departed this life on December 26, 2015 at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia. She was born in Thomas County, Georgia to the late Timothy and Mamie Lee Peterson.

Mattie was a stay at home mom for years after which she became employed at Aramark and worked until she became disabled. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Albert Sanders.

She was united in holy matrimony to Calvin Mitchell of Bainbridge, Georgia. She graduated in 1979 from Central High School, Thomas County then went on to trade school in Thomasville, Georgia.

Mattie is preceded in death by a father, mother, son , two brothers, two aunts and two grandmothers.

She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters; Lakisha (Tony), Angela, Sondra all of Atlanta, Georgia; eleven grandchildren, two sisters, Sarah Peterson, Susan Reddick; four brothers, Timothy (Pearl) Peterson, Jr., Amos Peterson, Nathaniel (Mary), Peterson, Michael Peterson; four nephews, eight nieces, one aunt, Alean Ross; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
