Obituary For James McCoy Joyce

Mr. James McCoy Joyce, 78, died November 3, 2019. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Goodwill First Baptist Church, Madison, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be held at the church cemetery.

On Sunday, November 3, 2019, James McCoy Joyce, affectionally known as “Coy”, peacefully made his transition into life everlasting at his residence. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, cousin, confidant and friend. He was born February 9, 1941 to the late Virginia Doris Joyce, in Stokes County (Walnut Cove, NC), where his younger years of life was spent working and enjoying the farm. He attended and graduated in 1960 from London High School, Walnut Cove, N. C. He often shared stories of his educational experiences and beloved classmates. After graduating from high school, he was gainfully employed at Washington Mills Textile Plant until it closed. He retired from Culp Ticking in Stokesdale, NC and continued to render custodial work with Sam Earl Dalton’s Company until his health declined. Coy was our “Mr. Clean”, he cleaned from sunup to sundown. Coy accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at a young age and became a member of New London Progressive Primitive Baptist Church. He was a meek, kind, humble and gentle person. He loved the Lord and after moving to Madison, NC he became a member of Goodwill First Baptist Church. His love for singing prompted him to join the church Male Chorus and would get so excited during their anniversary time. m In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Glenn Joyce, grandparents, Mr. Andrew Joyce and Mary S. Joyce, uncles; Joseph A. Joyce and George Joyce, aunts, Elenora J. Hairston and Sarah M. Joyce. Surviving relatives who shall forever cherish his memory: his beloved wife of 51 years; Louise W. Joyce, sons; Marty D. Joyce (Tracy), Darryl A. Smith (Kimberly), daughter; Denise L. Smith, grandchildren; Ethan Joyce, Octavia S. Reynolds, Samuel “Kyler” Smith, Colton A. Smith, brother; Bobby L. Joyce (Ann Gale), Godsons; Brian Hart (Shonna) and Derrick Lane (Kindra), aunt; Wilma J. Lindsay and a host of brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many cherished friends.
