Funeral services for Ms. Brinder Stevenson, 64, of 1920 Pinebrook St., Orangeburg, will be held 1:00 pm Friday, November 15, 2019 at Canaan United Methodist Church, 5659 Slab Landing Road, Cope, SC, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Walter Harley is officiating. Ms. Stevenson will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Brinder Kay Salley Stevenson was born on November 9, 1954 to the late John Salley and Thelma Busby Salley in Cope, SC. She departed this life on Friday, November 8, 2019 at Roper Cottage Hospice Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Brinder accepted Christ at an early age at Canaan United Methodist Church in Cope, South Carolina and was a faithful member. She was very compassionate and giving of her time towards others. She truly loved the Lord and served Him by joining the Canaan Ensemble Choir, serving as treasurer for the United Methodist Women and helping with the finances of the church.

Brinder was educated in the public school of Orangeburg County and was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School. After high school, she met Moses Stevenson, and to this union, four children were born.

Brinder was employed as a paraprofessional at Marshall and Mellichamp Elementary Schools in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She later obtained her BS degree from South Carolina State University and became a certified special education teacher. She then went on to teach at William J. Clark Middle School in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She then matriculated to Lesley University where she earned her Master’s Degree. After 33 years in education, Brinder retired in 2017 but was called back to teach and served until she succumbed to illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Moses Stevenson and two sisters: Maggie Salley and Carolina Salley Harrison.

Brinder leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Duane (Tereka) Stevenson of Charlotte, NC and Montel Stevenson of Orangeburg, SC; two daughters: Ashanti Stevenson and Pamela (Cornelius) Govan both of Orangeburg, SC; six sisters: Dorothy (Jeremiah) Jamison of Orangeburg, SC, Janie Williams of Orangeburg, SC, Johnnie (Dennis) Hampton of Hinesville, GA, Thelma Salley of Brooklyn, NY and Linda Salley of Queens, NY; four brothers: Robert Salley of Savannah, GA, William Salley of Orangeburg, SC, Sylvester Salley of Stanford, CT, and Larry (Wanda) Salley of Cope, SC; four brothers-in-law: James Harrison of Orangeburg, SC, Johnnie Stevenson of Maryland, Frankie Stevenson of Orangeburg, SC and Nathaniel (Pearl) Stevenson of Orangeburg, SC; three sisters-in-law: Hattie (Willie) Brwon of Orangeburg, SC, Dorothy Ninnons of Orangeburg, SC and Thelma Stevenson of Sumter, SC; eight grandchildren: Zavion, Kameron, Zion, Kristofer, Braylon, Alvin Jr., Londyn and Niyla; special friends: Patricia Wilson and Gloria Heatley; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held 12:00 noon - 8:00 pm Thursday, November 14, 2019.
