Obituary For John E. Carter

Mr. John E. Carter, 82, died November 11, 2019. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Locust Grove Baptist Church in Brown Summit. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the church.

John passed away at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital on November 11, 2019, in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was born in Rockingham County to the late Odell and Cora Yourse Carter and was educated in the Guilford County school system. John retired from Greensboro Day School in 1991 and enjoyed fishing and gardening until is health declined. He loved life and took great pleasure in meeting new people. He was known for never meeting a stranger because everyone that came in contact with him left his presence a friend. John was a faithful member of Locust Grove Baptist Church for many years. He took great pride in welcoming people as a greeter and as the president of the male chorus. He was also a faithful participant in midday Bible study. After serving, one of his greatest joys was sharing his peppermint candies with the congregation. John was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel R. Carter; his sons; Roger Carter and Charles W. Carter; two sisters; Edith Cater Crisp and Elizabeth Carter-Joyce, and two brothers; Clarence and James Carter. Left to cherish his memory are his children; Eddie Carter, Beverly Wadelington, John Dearmon, Janice Carter Hester (Rudy), Jeanette Carter, Richard Carter (Carla), and Jerry Carter (Missy), his siblings; Jay Rudd (Carline), Henry Carter (Silvia), Norris Carter (Ruth), Beatrice Hopkins and a sister-in-law, Ella Mae Carter; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and a loving host of family and friends.

To the family of Mr. John Carter, I'm truly sadened by the passing of Mr. Carter. He was such a gentle spirited man and always a joy to see on Sunday mornings as I entered the Locust Grove Church doors. He always greeted me with a loving smile and hug.
