The story of Herbert Hoover Johnson began on March 20, 1934 in Samson, Alabama as he was born to the late Johnnie Johnson Sr. and Willie Mae Johnson. He was the fifth of seven children. He graduated from Spencer High School, in Columbus, GA and went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree with great distinction as Cum Laude at Troy University. He spent over 30 years in the Army where he later retired as a Master Sergeant. Shortly after retiring from the military, he began working at Love Dental Clinic where he later retired.

He married the love of his life, the late Martha G. Johnson, with whom they had two children Marvin Johnson (Cynthia) and Erika Thomas (Frank), that eventually granted him his grandchildren Shelby Thomas, Marcus Johnson and Lindsey Thomas.

Herbert spent much time cheering on the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons with his brother Robert Johnson Sr., little did he know he’d soon be attending basketball, football and volleyball games, cheering on his grandchildren. As a faithful child of God, Herbert was an active member of Nichols Chapel A.M.E. church and had an infectious passion for spending time with his dog Lady, singing and family. His warm, yet humorous personality touched many lives and powerfully impacted every soul he encountered.

He is survived by two sisters Helen Burke and Lois Crook. He was preceded in death by his parents Johnnie JOhnson Sr. ,, Willie Mae Johnson and his siblings Carrie Lou Hill, Johnnie Johnson Jr., Robert Johnson Sr. and Mary Ann Powell.
