Obituary for Rev. Eddie Lee Irions

Eddie Lee Irions, Sr., 82 of Memphis, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at his residence. He was born on January 1, 1937 in Columbus, Mississippi, to the late Zebedee and Winnie (Williams) Irions. Eddie was a graduate of Tougaloo College in Mississippi, where he received a B.S. degree in Math. Later, he earned his master’s degree in Education Administration from Memphis State University. Rev. Irions was an associate minister who served in many capacities at the Cummings Street Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Eugene Waller. He was also instrumental in the church building fund which ultimately led to the construction of the new sanctuary at the Raines Road location. He was a Sunday School Teacher and he founded the Cummings Street Male Chorus. He retired from Memphis City Schools where he taught math and worked in administration. As an administrator, he recruited military veterans who did not graduate prior to serving in the armed forces, helping them to complete their college degrees. He also worked as an administrator in the personnel department for Memphis City Schools. Mr. Irions was an entrepreneur. He owned and operated V-8 Brake Service for over 30 years. He was married to Shirley (Nance) Irions for 60 years. They were blessed with two daughters and one son. His oldest daughter, Lesa, preceded him in death. He will be remembered by his wife, Shirley, son, Eddie Lee Irions Jr., MD, and daughter, Sheila Lynn Irions Williams (Reginald); two grandchildren, Matthew Nance Williams and Madison Belle Williams along with many dear family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 12:55 PM on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Cummings Street Missionary Baptist Church, 8800 Winchester Road, Memphis, Tennessee 38125. The funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis, TN.

Shiela the last time I saw your Dad was at your babygirl graduation celebration. He had such a good time he was really enjoying his grand baby celebration. I really enjoyed conversing with Mr Irons and Mrs Irons on that night. My prayers are with you and your family, please let me and my family know if we can do anything..
