Obituary For Mr. Samuel Maxwell, Jr.

Mr. Samuel Maxwell, Jr. (Sam) was called home to be with the Lord on November 23, 2019. He was born on December 16, 1937 in High Point, NC, a son of the late Samuel Maxwell, Sr. and Lillie Mae Allison Maxwell-Crump. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Roberta Evans and Sadie Kindle; stepfather, Theadford Crump.

Sam attended the High Point public schools and was a 1956 graduate of William Penn High School. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force and a 35-year retiree of the United States Postal Service.

Sam was of the Methodist faith all of his life. He attended Brooks Memorial Methodist Church as a youth, and later became a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the United Methodist Men and the Men’s Choir before his health failed.

Those left to cherish precious memories are his wife and the apple of his eye for 58 years, Rebecca Maxwell of the home; a daughter, Daliah Ann Maxwell Grumley of Bristol, CT; a sister, Norma Faye Maxwell of High Point, NC; grandchildren, Whitney Nicole Grumley and Marcus Samuel Grumley of Bristol, CT; a brother-in-law, Edward “Cal” Richardson of Thomasville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church. 1327 Cedrow Dr. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Public viewing will be on Friday, November 29, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
