Mrs. Tommie Jane Peterkin Dunlap, 87, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019 at her residence. She was born to the late Tommy Peterkin and Marie Harley Peterkin on November 25, 1932 in Marlboro County, SC.
Tommie was educated in Marlboro County, SC where she met and was united in marriage to James Lee Becote. Later in life, Tommie met and married the love of her life, Ernest J. Dunlap, who preceded her in death. Tommie was also preceded in death by her loving son, James Michael Becote; two brothers, Wesley and Daniel Peterkin; one sister, Ruth Boyd.
Tommie was a loving person to all who came in contact with her. Whenever you met her, she greeted you with the love of God. To Tommie, God was her source and salvation. The better part of her life she served as a deaconess at Temple Memorial Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memories are two sons, Alphonso Becote of Dallas, TX and Ernest Dunlap of High Point, NC; two brothers, Moses and George Peterkin of Bennettsville, SC; four sisters, Ann Calhoun of Bennettsville, SC, Ella Bell Parker of Charlotte, NC, Eula Mae Ward of Bennettsville, SC and Annie Jane Dupree of Hillside, NJ; two brothers, Moses Peterkin of Bennettsville, SC and George Peterkin of Blenheim, NC; nine grandchildren, Kendrick, Kibi, Traci, Stefon, Tammy, Deon, Tony, Faith and Marcus; and several great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Gloria Becote and Zell Becote; a life long friend and “twin” Annie Pearl Rogers; a very dear friend, Bozi Bostic; and a host of nieces, nephews, and a million friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Memorial Baptist Church, 1458 Cedrow Avenue. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
