Obituary For Carrie Harris Posey

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., Westhaven Funeral Home Chapel, 3580 Robinson Street, Jackson, MS 39209.

Carrie Lee (Anderson) Harris Posey was born January 1, 1947 in Lamkin, MS. Carrie went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 1, 2019. She was born to Lillie Mae Smith and Miller Anderson, who migrated to Chicago, Illinois. However, she remained in the South and was raised by her two great aunts, Ruby Cavotte Roberts and Elmira Cavotte Neal Montgomery. All of whom preceded her in death. Carrie was a Christian and a member of Burns Chapel United Methodist Church and later, Evans Chapel United Methodist Church. She graduated from McNair High School, Jackson State University and Mississippi Valley State University, achieving a Masters Level in Education. Carrie lived most of her adult life in Belzoni, MS where she taught 25 years for Humphreys County Schools. Many have stated she was their ‘favorite teacher’, and one of her students yet today affectionately states, ‘Mrs. Harris was the only person that I ‘knew’ loved me, besides my mother’’. That was just her way of genuinely, and indiscriminately pouring her all into the bright-eyed, eager souls that greeted her with ‘Good morning, Mrs. Harris’ each day! Each evening she led the family dinner discussion with the next episode of ‘Guess What ‘Little Johnny’ did today’! She adored and would give nothing for her students who grew to be adults and showered her with warm accolades and memories of their times together! Carrie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a strong, active, and positive presence to all - ready to care for, protect and give her last to if that’s what it took - always with a smile and a cheery heart. She leaves to cherish loving and wonderful memories to her Husband, Caesar Posey; her three children: Karen (Calvin) Harris-Clayton of Ridgeland, MS, Clarence (Sharonda) Harris of Gainesville, FL and Ginger Harris of Byram, MS; one sister Gwendolyn Harris of Chicago, IL and one brother, Norman Neal of Memphis, TN; eight grandchildren; Stephanie, Kenedi, King, Sierra, Jordan, Kaysi, Kara, Caleb and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
