Funeral services for Mr. Vernon R. Kelly, 86, of 514 Bowman Branch Hwy, Bowman, SC, will be held 1:00pm Friday, December 13, 2019 at Andrew Chapel Baptist Church, 3670 Five Chop Road, Orangeburg, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Donald Green is officiating.

Mr. Kelly will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Vernon “Newtie Boy” Roosevelt Kelly, the youngest child of Maggie and Arthur Kelly, went on his eternal journey December 2, 2019 at his home. He was born on October 6, 1933 in Bowman, South Carolina. He had six sisters and one brother.

He completed his education in Bowman, South Carolina and New York, New York. Upon graduating high school, he went to serve his country in the United States Army, where he received an honorable discharge.

Vernon was loving, caring, and would help anyone. He loved his family. He lived and worked many places and returned to Bowman to help with the care of his aging mother until her passing.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings: Pauline Summers, Edna Bowman, Marzine King, Lurrleen Pryor, Evelyn Gray, Arthur Kelly Jr. and Aline Kelly.

Vernon leaves to cherish fond memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and four specials friends: Willie Clay Haygood, who was his caregiver for many years, Kenneth Graham, Georgia Mae Turkvant Mosely and Betty Glover Sweeper.

Mr. Kelly passed away on Monday, December 2, 2019 at his residence.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 12, 2019 from 11:00 am – 8:00 pm.
