Eugene "Gene" Butts, 78, was born in Milledgeville, GA, reared in Harrisburg, PA and spent most of his adult life in Brooklyn, NY.

He returned home recently to Harrisburg where he transitioned peacefully on Sunday morning, December 8, 2019 with his family at his bedside. He was a 1958 graduate of the former William Penn High School, attended Manhattan, Baruch and John Jay Colleges, as well as Fordham University and retired from Verizon as a Design Engineer. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Sollie and Emma (Harris) Butts; his sister, Mary Butts-Talley and his brother-in-law, Dr. John M. Williams. He leaves to celebrate his life, his sisters, Lucy Jones (Albert) of Harrisburg, Dr. Barbara Butts-Williams of Minnesota and Carista Wilson; his brothers, Lewis Butts (Margaret), Vincent Butts and Andre Butts; his brother-in-law, Raymond Talley, all of Harrisburg and a host of other relatives and friends. His life will be celebrated Saturday, December 14 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton with viewing 9:00 am until 10:00 a.m. and burial at East Harrisburg Cemetery.
