Funeral services for Mrs. Gwendolyn Kennerly, 68, of 866 Glover Street, Orangeburg, SC, will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Simmons Funeral Home Chapel and Crematory, 2868 Columbia Road, Orangeburg, with interment to follow in Heavenly Rest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Gwendolyn Elizabeth Johnson-Kennerly was born on March 16, 1951, the eldest of three children born to Dorothy Louise Johnson of Orangeburg, South Carolina.

Gwenn was educated in the public school system in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

She was employed as a homemaker for many years before becoming a dietary assistant at Laurel Bay Edisto Convalescent Home. She worked as a dietary assistant for thirty years, until her health began to fail.

Gwenn made the ultimate sacrifice of taking care of her mother, whom she loved dearly. Gwenn was a quiet person until her close friends came around. Then, she would become very lively and cheerful. Gwenn never drank or smoked. She enjoyed herself NATURALLY. She loved her family and friends from her soul. She was protective of her two younger brothers, Larry and Bernard, and would protect them by any means necessary.

As an adult, she met and married Julius Kennerly. On December 12, 2019, Gwenn bravely departed this life at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina after a long-fought illness. She fought a good fight and finished her course.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy McCord; brother, Bernard; special cousin, Bobby Davis; and nephew, Larry Johnson, Jr.

Gwenn leaves to cherish her memories, legacy and love of family her only child, her son Labron Kennerly; brother, Larry (Cheryl) Johnson; nieces, Shawana Thomas and Fatima Johnson; nephew, Elijah Johnson; special friends, Emily Brown, Sandra Garvin and Judy Clark; and a host of other relatives, acquaintances and friends.

Mrs. Kennerly passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2019 from noon to 8:00pm.
