Obituary

Johnny Lee Lewis Jr, affectionately known as “Butch,” was a loving, caring, and naturally funny soul who could fill any room with laughter—even when he wasn’t trying. Born on January 10, 1963, in Great Falls, South Carolina,

Butch later made his home in Baisley neighborhood in South Jamaica, Queens, New York.

He Attended Hillcrest High School, Butch was skilled with his hands and worked as a professional handyman. He had a gift for fixing things, cracking jokes, and making good times out of simple moments. He loved good music, a lively game of handball, and spending time with family and friends who treasured his big heart and easygoing spirit.

Butch was born to Johnny Lee Lewis, Sr. and Flora Kennedy Lewis, who, along with his sister Theresa Lewis and foster brother Bruce Stewart, welcomed him home to glory on January 2, 2026.

He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Shalise Lewis of New York City and Ashley Lewis (Marcus)of Elgin, SC; one son, Jamel Lewis of South Carolina; three sisters, Linda Lewis of Charlotte, NC, Wilda (Yvette) Lewis and Helen (Dede) Lewis, both of New York City; and one brother, Jerry Lee Lewis of New York City.

He is also survived by 11 Grandkids 10 nephew 2 nieces four loving aunts—Bessie Qualls (Joe), Frances Robinson of Ridgeway, Betty Perry of Winnsboro, and Eha Lee Robinson (Fitz) of New York City—and a host of cousins, extended family, and dear friends who will forever remember his warmth, wit, and unwavering love.

Butch had a big laugh, a generous heart, and a spirit that touched everyone he met. Though he has gone home, his joy, humor, and love will continue to live on in all who had the blessing of knowing him.
