Rufus Thomas Threatt was a man whose life exemplified strength, perseverance, and an unwavering devotion to family. Known for his wisdom and steady presence, Rufus left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He valued hard work, personal integrity, and living with purpose, approaching life with quiet determination and meaningful action.
Rufus Thomas Threatt was born on June 16, 1941, in Vincent, Alabama, to the late Thomas and Ruth Threatt. A lifelong resident of Talladega, Alabama, he graduated from Shelby County High School and later answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Following his military service, Rufus began a successful career at Kimberly-Clark, where he was widely respected for his dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic. While employed there, he continued his education at Nunnelley State Technical College, reflecting his commitment to personal growth and lifelong learning.
A man of faith, Rufus was a devoted member of Bellview Missionary Baptist Church. His life reflected the values of faith, service, and community, which guided him throughout his years and shaped the example he set for others.
During his lifetime, Rufus was married twice. He was first united in marriage to Ivory Jean Threatt and later to Sarah Curry Threatt. Each marriage marked a meaningful chapter in his life and contributed to the strong foundation of love and family that remains part of his enduring legacy.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and cherished uncle. Outside of work and family, he found great joy in watching sports, especially Auburn football. He was also a loyal fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. Rufus truly appreciated life’s moments, both big and small.
Rufus was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ruth Threatt; his first wife, Ivory Jean Threatt; his second wife, Sarah Curry Threatt; his daughter, Kimberly Threatt; his sisters, Nadine Middleton and Margie Johnson; and his brothers, William Threatt, Eddie Threatt, and Terry Threatt.
He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Andra Threatt (Mary) of Lincoln, Alabama; his daughters, Ursula Reynolds (Dandrick) of Alpine, Alabama, Norda Threatt of Childersburg, Alabama, and Jennifer Barrett (Travis) of Manassas Park, Virginia; his grandchildren, George Threatt, Tiera Toyer, DeAndria Lawrence (Jonwinton), Corey Threatt, Asia Curry (Quintavious), Andrew Threatt, and Jordon Fomby; one great-grandchild, Rylee Lawrence; and his beloved goddaughter, Jacola Cook.
He is also survived by his siblings, Roxie Mallory (Leo, deceased), Frances Dates (Martin), Nettie Hightower (Bernard), Jimmy Threatt (Patricia), Arthur Threatt (Altharis), Mark Threatt (Wanda), Larry Threatt (Margaret), Gary Threatt (Rena), and Sandra Porch (Tony); three devoted sisters-in-law, Doris Threatt, Carlene Threatt, and Mary Threatt; one uncle, Richard Fair (Catherine); along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
The legacy of Rufus Thomas Threatt will live on through the cherished memories he leaves behind and the lasting impact of a life well lived.
