Mr. Steven Bernard Crowder, son of the late Louise Gatewood and Thomas James Crowder, was born on June 24, 1965, and peacefully departed this life on December 6, 2025, at Richmond County Hospice, Rockingham, NC.

Steven, affectionately known as “Steve,” was a lifelong resident of Wadesboro, North Carolina. He was known for his warm spirit, quiet strength, and deep love for family. Steve enjoyed singing, dancing, and spending time with his siblings—laughing, playing, and simply enjoying their company. Those joyful moments were some of the highlights of his life.

Steve was also a dedicated worker throughout his life. He spent many years employed with Bennett Lawn Service, where he learned the skill and pride of outdoor work. He later continued his career with Maye’s Lawn Service, remaining committed to hard work and reliability until his health declined.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Crowder, and three sisters: Peggy Horne, Kim Crowder, and Wendolyn Crowder.

Steve leaves to cherish his memory three sisters: Mary Goodwin, Joanne Presson, and Thomasina Crowder; and two brothers: Willie (Hazel) Crowder, all of Wadesboro, NC and Nathaniel Moore (Charlotte) of Clarksville, Tennessee.

He is also survived by his great-aunt, Maelouise Cassette; her daughter, Sheila Ratliff (James); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A very special place in Steve’s life was held by his life-long friend Charlie Burns, whom he considered family and lovingly called “Uncle Charlie.” Their bond was one of true loyalty and brotherhood.

Steve’s life was simple but deeply meaningful—marked by love, laughter, and the connections he maintained with the people around him. His presence will be profoundly missed, and his memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

The Homegoing Services will be on Sunday, December 14, 2025, 2:00pm, Pleasant Hill AME Zion Church, Highway 109, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will be in the family plot of the Church Cemetery.
