James Larry Jones, affectionately known as “Larry", passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026,
at Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 77.

Larry was born on November 15, 1948, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Willie and Dorothy
Jones. He was raised in the Walker Homes community, an area known for its toughness but
one that helped shape Larry’s resilience, determination, and strong character. Those early
experiences helped form the disciplined and dependable man many came to know and
respect. Larry joined Riverside Baptist Church at an early age, where he grew in faith and
learned the values that guided him throughout his life.

He graduated from Mitchell High School and later attended what was then Memphis State
University, where he pursued coursework to prepare for a career in management. Larry went
on to build an impressive career with Aluma Form, where he faithfully worked for more than
40 years before retiring. During his time there, he was recognized and appreciated for his
loyalty, dedication, and strong work ethic.

Larry was married to Samella Jones, and although the two later divorced, they maintained a
close and respectful relationship. Their bond as family remained strong, and they continued
to share holidays and special occasions together over the years. From this union, they were
blessed with one son, Marcus Jones, who was the pride and joy of Larry’s life.

Above all, Larry was a devoted father, mentor, and protector. His quiet strength, wisdom, and
steady presence left a lasting impression on those closest to him. Later in life, he took great
joy in becoming a grandfather to his beloved grandson, Christian Jones.

Larry had a passion for race and antique cars and golf. He enjoyed participating in numerous
golf tournaments and outings and valued the friendships and camaraderie that came with
the sport. He was also a proud member of the Beale Street Corvette Association and
frequently participated in their annual car shows. Among his prized possessions was an
autographed baseball from baseball legend Hank Aaron, a keepsake he proudly treasured.

Those who knew Larry also knew his sense of humor. He was famous for his classic “cornball”
jokes—simple moments that often brought laughter and smiles to those around him. Beneath
his strong and disciplined exterior was a gentle and thoughtful spirit that showed itself in
quiet but meaningful ways.

Larry leaves behind his loving son, Marcus Jones, and his cherished grandson, Christian Jones.
He is also survived by his siblings, Linda Faye Britton (Melvin), Sherri Motley all of Memphis, TN,
and Dorothy Nita Shelton of Jacksonville, Florida, along with a host of nieces, nephews,
extended family members and friends who will forever treasure his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Dorothy Jones, and his siblings John D.
Jones, Willie “Judd” Jones, and Sondra Ann Sims.
