The Life & Legacy of Raymond Louis Meachem Sr.

Born to Louis Napoleon Meachem and Ellen Meachem, in Wadesboro, North Carolina, Raymond was one of eleven siblings.

He left Wadesboro at the age of 13, traveled to New York and began to seek out a career path. For professional reasons and job security, he started mortuary school. Upon graduating, he became an entrepreneur, opening his own funeral home, Raymond L. Meachem Sr. Funeral Home, serving Brooklyn, New York and the surrounding boroughs. However, his work was not confined to New York, he created lasting relationships in several states that made him the close and respected person that we celebrate today.

Around 2004, he retired and returned home to Wadesboro with his family and built his home and continued his legacy. He was most recognized for his "brick house in Capel Dairy Rd".

Mr. Meachem was also a fervent follower of Christ, coined by his father with the nickname, "Preacher". He became an ordained deacon while still in Brooklyn, New York. He joined First Baptist of Wadesboro upon his return to his hometown. He never hesitated at the opportunity to minister to others.

Since returning, Mr. Meachem has been an active member of the deacon board, Rotary member, and supporter of Anson County Sheriff.

He leaves his daughters, Marlene and Rachael (Quinton), sons, Raymond Jr. and Johnathan Sr., brothers and sister, Clarence Sr., Sherman, and Margaret. He leaves a lasting legacy through his granddaughter, Chieyen, as well as others and his great grandchildren. Raymond's bloodline continues with several generations of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mr. Meachem Sr. now rests in paradise with his mother and father, son, siblings, wives, and a number of close friends.

A Memorial Service to Celebrate the Life, Legacy and Contributions of Mr. Meachem will be on Saturday, March 14, 2026, 11:00am, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina.
