Hattie Hicks Wallace

10/08/1949 - 03/28/2026

A beloved educator, sister, and friend, Hattie peacefully departed this life on Saturday, March 28th, 2026, at the age of 76. She resided in Talladega, Alabama, a place she dearly called home for many years, though she was born in Lonoke, Arkansas on October 8th, 1949.

Hattie was a dedicated member of Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church. Hattie’s passion for education led her to touch countless lives during her career as a Physical Education Teacher with Talladega City Schools. Her dedication to teaching was matched by her academic achievements, being an alumna of Scipio A. Jones High School, Talladega College, and Jacksonville State University.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Hattie’s life was enriched by her involvement in various organizations close to her heart, including the National Education Association, Alabama Teachers Association, Talladega County Educators Association, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the NAACP just to name a few. Her interests extended into her personal life as she enjoyed cooking gourmet meals, baking, interior decorating, fashion, collecting hats, and gardening.

Mourning her loss deeply and cherishing her memory are her sisters, Uretha Hicks Rosby of Ocean Township, NJ, and Vickie Hicks Butler of Sherwood, AR. She was a loving aunt to her nieces, Porchia L. Rosby, Tiffany N. Rosby Hooks, Tricia Hicks Moses and Teona Dobbins; a nephew, Roderick Hicks; step children Pamela Y Wallace (Walker) Dates, Regina Bowie, Gregory (Cassandra) Wilson, Wilby Wallace, III, Conrad (Vicky) Ragland and Walter Fitzgerald Wallace; and countless children she nurtured in the community; and a treasured friend to many, especially her special friend, Carolyn Hosea Curry.

She was preceded in death by her devoted spouse of nearly 41 years, Wilby Wallace, Jr., who awaited her arrival with open arms; her parents, Henry Columbus Hicks and Essie Mae Hicks; her sister, Argean Hicks and Her brothers, Henry Charles Hicks, Jr., Randolph Cornelius Hicks, Leon Andrew Hicks, Ernest Lee Hicks and Jimmy Roy Hicks.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and selfless teaching that will continue to inspire those who knew her. Hattie Wallace will be profoundly missed, and her memory will forever remain in our hearts
