Queen Fredonia Thompson, born on September 28, 1961, in Kannapolis, North Carolina, transitioned peacefully on February 13, 2026, at Atrium Health University Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Edward Thompson and Minister Barbara Ann Buchanan.

Fredonia attended the public schools of Anson County. She confessed Christ at an early age.

Fredonia was a radiant and quiet soul whose warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She embraced life with an open heart and a spirit that uplifted everyone around her. Her smile could light up the darkest of rooms.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Mario Wall.

Fredonia is survived by her beloved children, Devina Mahoney and Frederick Mahoney; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two sisters, Pamela Watkins (Howard) and Edwina Shankle (Grover); two brothers, Edward Thompson and Howard Thompson; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Queen Fredonia Thompson was a true queen in every sense of the word, and her light will forever shine in our lives. May she rest in peace, wrapped in the love she so freely gave to others.

The Homegoing Services will be on Saturday, February 21, 2026, 2:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina.
