Mr. Hubert Gibson, 91, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Adams Farm Living and Rehabilitation in Jamestown, NC. He was born on September 17, 1934, to the late Slade Sr. and Bessie Mae Bennett Gibson in Scotland County, NC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mary E. Alexander Gibson; one brother and four sisters.
Hubert attended school in Scotland County before moving to High Point, NC, at a young age. Throughout his life, he held various jobs and eventually retired from Braxton Culler and the High Point Furniture Market. He was also a member of the Toussaint L’Ouverture Lodge #524. His dedication to service extended to the Shriners, an organization recognized for its charitable efforts and support of children in need.
Hubert was well-known wherever he went, possessing a personality that was infectiously larger than life. An outstanding husband and father, he shared a special bond with his son, Anthony, particularly enjoying their time together at high school football games.
Hubert had a passion for traveling, deep-sea fishing, baseball, watching old westerns, and cooking for his family and friends, to name a few.
Hubert leaves to cherish his memories, one son, Anthony Gibson of the home; two brothers, L.T. Gibson (Beatrice) of High Point, NC and Walter F. Gibson of Washington, DC; three sisters, Dorothy Leach, Patricia Payne and Gloria Gibson, whom he called “Baby Sister” all of High Point, NC; special friend, William Brown and a great host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
