Robert V. Hanton, 56, of Phenix City, AL passed on Friday, May 1, 2026 in Columbus, GA.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST on Friday, May 8, 2026 in the C.T. Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Burton, officiating. Burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Seale, AL. Public visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

Robert Vernon “Pig” Hanton, 56, of Phenix City, was born on October 20, 1969, to Annie Mae Johnson Hanton and the late Robert Hanton.

He was a proud graduate of Central High School, Class of 1987, in Phenix City, AL. Robert was a dedicated employee at the Columbus Civic Center, where he faithfully served as a Custodian. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing dominoes and card games, especially spades, and he cherished the moments spent with family and friends.

On May 1, 2026, Robert Vernon “Pig” Hanton departed this life at Piedmont Columbus Regional, surrounded by his loving mother and a circle of devoted family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved mother, Annie Hanton; two sisters, Vanessa Smith and Valerie Bryant, and a host of nieces and nephews: Ricardo Mayo, Kamia (Antaion) Bagley, Fronsha Smith, Fernando Smith II, Nakia Smith, and Tonia Lowman. He is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews: Trevion Smith, Kania Bagley, Asia Davis, Terrell Brown, Fernando Smith III, Aubrey Sanford, Genesis Walker, Ava Upshaw, and Teigan Lowman, along with a host of cousins, classmates and dear friends.

Robert will be remembered for his presence, his warmth, and the love he shared with those around him. His memory will be forever cherished, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
