Marilyn Brown Kimbrough, age 69, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Marilyn’s life was a beautiful reflection of kindness, generosity, laughter, and love. She will be remembered for the joy she brought into every room, her caring spirit, and her ability to make others smile. Because of who Marilyn was and the way she loved others, she was deeply loved by her family.
Marilyn was born on September 8, 1956, in Alpine, Alabama. From an early age, Marilyn displayed a warm heart, a bright personality, and a passion for learning that would guide her throughout her life.
She graduated from Lafayette High School in Lafayette, Alabama, and continued her education at Alabama A&M University, where she earned both her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree. Her commitment to education became her life’s calling, and she dedicated her career to serving others as a school teacher. Through her work, Marilyn touched the lives of countless students, offering not only instruction but also encouragement, patience, and care.
One of the greatest blessings and proudest moments of Marilyn’s life was becoming a mother. The birth of her daughter, Kimberly Kimbrough, brought her immeasurable joy, and being Kimberly’s mother was one of the most meaningful and treasured roles of her life. Marilyn’s love, devotion, and pride as a mother were evident to everyone who knew her.
Grounded in her Christian faith, Marilyn believed in helping others and giving from the heart. She was a former member of Phillips Temple AOH Church of God and later attended Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church #1. Her faith was reflected in the way she treated others—with kindness, compassion, generosity, and love.
Marilyn was known for her unforgettable sense of humor and her ability to bring laughter wherever she went. Those who knew her will remember her jokes, her joyful spirit, and the special way she could brighten difficult days. She had the gift of making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved.
She became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, being initiated into the Delta Chapter at Alabama A&M University in 1976. She proudly shared in the sisterhood’s commitment to service, scholarship, and uplifting the community.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved aunt and uncle, Sadie Brown Lawson and Willie Lawson, whose love and influence were an important part of her life.
She leaves behind cherished memories with her beloved daughter, Kimberly Kimbrough; her mother, Emily McClendon; her aunt, Sidney Burks; her aunt, Alberta Swain; her sisters, Crystal McClendon Gourdine and Casandra McClendon Brown; her brothers, Christopher McClendon and Cory McClendon; her loving and supportive cousins; and many other family members, friends, former students, sorority sisters, and all those whose lives were blessed by knowing her.
Though Marilyn’s earthly journey has ended, the lessons she taught, the kindness she showed, and the laughter she shared will continue to live on through everyone who loved her. Her legacy is found in the students she inspired, the daughter she cherished, the family she loved, the friendships she built, and the countless moments of joy she created.

Her remains may be viewed Saturday June 13,2026 at Phillips Temple AOH Church of God (2257 St. Stephens Rd) Mobile, Alabama 36617 from 10am until the 11am Funeral Service. Interment will follow in Whispering Pines Cemetery.
